The 48th Governing Body Meeting of BRICS CCI convened on October 21, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, bringing together esteemed members to review the Chamber’s recent activities and future objectives.

The agenda commenced with the confirmation of minutes from the 47th Governing Body Meeting held on July 12, 2024, followed by the formal introduction of new members who joined the Chamber over the past quarter.

Comprehensive discussions took place regarding recent BRICS CCI programs and events, which have played a pivotal role in strengthening the Chamber’s influence and visibility on both national and international fronts.

The meeting also provided a preview of upcoming initiatives, including B2B business meetings and strategic conferences, underscoring their objectives in enhancing collaboration and promoting business synergies across BRICS nations.

In a warm celebration of Diwali, Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of BRICS CCI, and Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director of BRICS CCI, had the pleasure of visiting the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, where they engaged in a meaningful conversation with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H. E. Mr. Xu Feihong. During this festive gathering, the Ambassador extended heartfelt wishes for a joyous Diwali to all BRICS CCI members and Indian friends.

The Ambassador also expressed his optimism about the China-India partnership and the significant potential for collaboration within the BRICS framework. He noted that the upcoming BRICS Summit in Kazan will be instrumental in providing a new vision and direction for our collective journey, reinforcing the commitment to deepening cooperation and mutual growth among BRICS nations.

The BRICS Business Forum 2024, held on October 17-18, 2024 in Moscow, Russia, brought together top leaders, experts, and influencers from various industries across BRICS nations and beyond. Focused on the theme “Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Growth,” the forum aimed to foster collaboration and explore opportunities in emerging sectors such as technology, finance, infrastructure, and sustainability. The two-day event featured a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking sessions, along with the BRICS Solution Awards, which celebrated groundbreaking projects within the BRICS community. Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director – BRICS CCI served as one of the esteemed judges for the awards, playing a key role in recognizing impactful innovations. The forum served as a platform for participants to share insights and discuss strategies for driving sustainable growth across the BRICS countries. Representatives from BRICS CCI, namely, Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman – BRICS CCI; Mr. Alok Kumar, Honorary Director- BRICS CCI Russia and Honorary Governing Body Member; and Mr. Anand Anu, MD Himalaya Construction Pvt. Ltd., actively participated in the discussions, contributing valuable perspectives and highlighting the Chamber’s commitment to promoting sustainable business practices and economic integration within the BRICS framework.

The BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry and The Grappling Committee of India – North Zone signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Chandigarh. The MoU was formalized by Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of BRICS CCI, and Mr. Shubham Chaudhary, Chairman of the Grappling Committee of India – North Zone.

The Grappling Federation of India (GFI) is the national governing body for grappling sports in India, recognized by United World Wrestling (UWW). GFI works to develop the sport from grassroots to elite levels and is dedicated to upholding the values of the Olympic Movement. Their mission includes unifying and organizing associations and clubs to achieve excellence in grappling and ensure that athletes receive equal opportunities for government and Olympic events.

This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing BRICS CCI’s engagement with the sports community.

On September 19, 2024, the education team from Austrade at the Australian High Commission, namely, Ms. Mahnaaz Khan: Head of Trans-National Education and International Branch Campus Project; Mr. Henry Zechariah: Head of Edtech initiatives; and Mr. Kamal Rabha: Specialist- TNE, IBC, Edtech, met with senior leadership at FORE School of Management, headed by Dr. B.B.L. Madhukar, Co-Chairman and Director General – BRICS CCI and Chairman, FORE School of Management, to explore potential avenues for collaboration. The meeting was facilitated by BRICS CCI, underscoring the Chamber’s role in fostering strategic partnerships and strengthening international educational ties.

The discussion focused on introducing opportunities for FORE School of Management to connect with Australian Edtech companies, aiming to enhance educational innovation and technology integration. The engagement aimed to identify collaborative initiatives in areas such as curriculum development, digital learning solutions, and skill enhancement programs that can benefit students and faculty members alike.

The BRICS Urban Future Forum was held in Moscow, Russia, from September 18-19, 2024, bringing together over 13,000 participants from 21 countries, including political and business leaders. The forum aimed to turn dialogue into actionable strategies to enhance international cooperation among BRICS cities, organizations, and companies.

Representing India, the BRICS CCI delegation featured Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman – BRICS CCI, who spoke on “Market without Borders: Export Potentials of Interaction,” focusing on boosting trade relations among BRICS nations. Ms. Ruby Sinha, President of the BRICS CCI Women Empowerment Vertical, highlighted urban innovation’s role in driving entrepreneurship. Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director – BRICS CCI, discussed emerging investment opportunities in BRICS cities in the session “Venture of Change: Investment Market of BRICS Cities.” 

Ms. Shormishtha Ghosh, a distinguished member of the BRICS CCI Governing Body, also participated in various discussions at the forum, lending her expertise to the ongoing dialogue on international cooperation and the future of urban development. Her presence reinforced the chamber’s commitment to furthering collaboration and growth among BRICS cities.

Mr. Alok Kumar, Honorary Director of BRICS CCI Russia, spoke on the topic “Industrial Robotization: A Driver of Job Growth in Cities.” Mr. Kumar highlighted how automation and robotization are reshaping industries and urban economies, particularly in the context of job creation and productivity enhancement. He discussed the potential of industrial robotization to not only boost economic output but also drive sustainable job growth in the long term, contributing to the economic resilience of cities.

The first edition of the BRICS Innovation Forum was held from 27th August to 29th August in Moscow, Russia. Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman, BRICS CCI and Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director, BRICS CCI graced the event with their presence. This prestigious forum brought together leaders and experts from a myriad of sectors to deliberate on the latest technological trends and innovations shaping the global landscape.

Mr. Shastri expressed his views in a panel discussion on the theme “Space for Business. Prospects for BRICS Business Cooperation”. The discussion centered around identifying the most promising areas of technological cooperation within BRICS, finding ways for more effective cooperation and how to facilitate entrepreneurs’ access to BRICS markets.

The BRICS Cloud City International Innovation Forum also witnessed the  signing of a Memorandum Of Understanding between the BRICS CCI, represented by Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman, BRICS CCI and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry represented by Mr. Mtho Xulu, Director, SACCI in Moscow.

On August 27, 2024, Mr. Alok Kumar, Honorary Governing Body Member and Country Director – BRICS CCI Russia, addressed the International Municipal BRICS Forum. He emphasized the role of classical art, ethnic traditions, and cultural exchanges in fostering global unity and understanding. Highlighting the importance of sustainable urban development, he advocated for innovative strategies such as smart grids, green buildings, and resource-efficient infrastructure to address urbanization challenges. Mr. Kumar also called for enhanced collaboration, funding, and youth engagement in cultural and urban initiatives, proposing dedicated programs to strengthen BRICS+ cultural diplomacy and sustainable growth.

On August 23, 2024, the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Agriculture, Mines, and Handicrafts of Chad (CCIAMA) entered into a significant partnership aimed at strengthening South- South cooperation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marks a pivotal step towards deepening technical and trade ties between India and Chad. This collaboration highlights both organizations’ dedication to fostering economic growth, innovation, and development within their respective regions.

Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of BRICS CCI, and esteemed BRICS CCI member Mr. Anshul Bhargava represented BRICS CCI at the 10th International Military- Technical Forum “Army-2024,” held from August 12th to 24th, 2024. Organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, this prestigious event served as a major platform for showcasing cutting-edge advancements in military technology and fostering international collaboration. The forum brought together global leaders, experts, and industry representatives, offering a unique opportunity for exploring new technologies.

During the forum, Mr. Shastri engaged in a highly productive discussion with Mr. Denis Gribov, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation. Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director at BRICS CCI, also played a prominent role as a keynote speaker at the forum, further emphasizing its focus on expanding Armenia’s economic integration with BRICS and SCO member states, reflecting BRICS CCI’s growing influence on the global stage. The event saw the signing of key agreements that will enhance cooperation between Armenia’s business associations and major international entities like the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Russian-Asian Business Council, and the SCO Member States Technology Transfer Center of the Armenia-BRICS Business Cooperation Center.

The international forum titled “New Horizons of Cooperation between Armenia and EAEU with BRICS and SCO,” held on August 8, 2024 in Yerevan marked a crucial step in Armenia’s economic diplomacy, paving the way for increased collaboration with global economic powerhouses. At the forum, Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of BRICS CCI, delivered a powerful opening speech, underscoring the vital role of international cooperation in economic growth. He also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the “My Country, My Armenia” movement, which was pivotal in strengthening Armenia’s ties with the BRICS community.

Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director at BRICS CCI, also played a prominent role as a keynote speaker at the forum, further emphasizing its focus on expanding Armenia’s economic integration with BRICS and SCO member states, reflecting BRICS CCI’s growing influence on the global stage. The 47th Governing Body Meeting of the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry was convened on July 12, 2024, with a strong focus on advancing our collective mission to foster economic cooperation and sustainable development among BRICS nations.

Key agenda items included a review of ongoing projects, strategic discussions on upcoming initiatives, and an exploration of new partnerships that align with our long-term vision. The meeting served as a platform for our esteemed leaders to share insights, deliberate on pressing challenges, and outline the roadmap for future growth.

Mr. Prann Sharma, Executive Director-Strategy at BRICS CCI and President of BRICS CCI-Healthcare Vertical, showcased exemplary leadership at SPIEF 2024. During the plenary session on “Drug Security in BRICS Countries” at the Russian Pharmaceutical Forum on June 5, 2024, he shared insights on strategies to ensure access to essential medicines and vaccines within the BRICS community. Mr. Sharma emphasized the potential of traditional medicines, particularly India’s integration of Ayurvedic wisdom with modern pharmaceutical research, supported by the Ministry of AYUSH.

On June 7, 2024, Mr. Sharma participated in the Round Table Discussion “The Beginning of the Future: How Foundations Can Work Together to Make BRICS Stronger.” He facilitated dialogue among key stakeholders on collaborative initiatives to strengthen the BRICS framework. Notably, he formalized a cooperation agreement within the BRICS+ League of Foundations, aiming to promote scientific and educational activities and address future challenges through knowledge and resource exchange. Mr. Sharma’s contributions highlight BRICS CCI’s commitment to advancing healthcare and economic cooperation within the BRICS ecosystem.

On 30th May, 2024, the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI) had the honor of visiting the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to extend their congratulations to H.E. Xu Feihong, the newly appointed Ambassador of China to India. The meeting was attended by key members of the BRICS CCI team, including Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman, Mr. Atul Banshal, Executive Director of International Affairs, Ms. Ruby Sinha, President of the BRICS CCI WE Vertical, Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director and Ms. Yashika Pokhriyal, Assistant Director.Ambassador Xu Feihong, renowned for his diplomatic expertise and dedication to fostering international cooperation, welcomed the BRICS CCI representatives warmly. He articulated his vision for deepening ties in various sectors including trade, investment, and cultural exchange, highlighting these areas as crucial for the collective development and prosperity of the BRICS nations. The BRICS CCI delegation presented their ongoing and future initiatives aimed at bolstering economic ties, with a special focus on sustainable development, technological innovation, and youth leadership programs. These discussions underscored a shared vision for a more integrated and cooperative BRICS community.

On May 3, 2024, a notable gathering took place at the Russian Embassy in India, where Ms. Ruby Sinha, President of the Women Vertical and Governing Body Member – BRICS CCI, Mr. Gulshan Narang, President of the MSME Vertical and Governing Body Member – BRICS CCI, alongside Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director – BRICS CCI, met with Mr. Roman Babushkin, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission. This meeting marked the unveiling of the comprehensive report titled “New Era of BRICS: Horizons in Tech and Business for Women Empowerment.” Deliberations during the session underscored the imperative of mutual collaboration and the advancement of women’s entrepreneurship and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the BRICS framework. The discussions also explored strategic partnerships aimed at fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and promoting gender equality. Such collaborative efforts signal a steadfast commitment to enhancing cooperation for the collective advancement of the BRICS community.

On 29th April, 2024 in New Delhi, BRICS CCI had a meeting with Her Excellency Mrs. Dillah Lucienne, Ambassador of the Republic of Chad, along with representatives from the embassy and the Chad Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was a significant step towards fostering collaboration between our nations. Representing BRICS CCI were Dr. BBL Madhukar, Director General, Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of the Chamber, and Mr. Atul Banshal, Executive Director (International Relations). Together, they engaged in fruitful discussions on avenues for mutual assistance and partnership. 

In a significant development, representatives from the BRICS CCI WE convened with Mr. Si Wei, Counsellor of the Policy Research Section, and Mr. Wu Yanzhi, Attaché from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in New Delhi, India on April 26th, 2024. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the unveiling of BRICS CCI’s groundbreaking report titled “New Era of BRICS: Horizons in Tech and Business for Women Empowerment.” The session served as a platform for engaging in discussions on a multitude of topics, including the exploration of future collaborative ventures. Of particular focus were prospective initiatives in the realms of education, training, and developmental courses. Both parties expressed keen interest in leveraging their respective expertise and resources to pave the way for innovative programs aimed at fostering growth and empowerment.

Mr. Ansh Virmani, Country Director – BRICS CCI UAE Chapter, recently attended the prestigious “World of Opportunities” International Business Forum in Dubai, UAE from 22-24 April, 2024. Hosted by the Roscongress Foundation, the event aimed to strengthen cooperation between Russia, MENA, and BRICS economies. It drew attention to the burgeoning trade relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing a robust 67.7 percent growth in trade over the past year, as highlighted by Russian President Vladimir Putin during bilateral talks in December 2023. With over 2,000 participants in attendance and a global audience exceeding 300,000, the Forum featured panel sessions, exhibitions, and a Startup Track. Mr. Virmani, honored as a guest and speaker, contributed to the panel session on “Multipolar Diplomacy: The role of BRICS in Structuring Global Cooperation.” 

Dr. Jitendra Das, Governing Body Member of BRICS CCI, played a crucial role in the “New Era – New Ways” World Forum held in Moscow on April 19, 2024. Organized by the International Organization for Eurasian Cooperation (IOEC), the event gathered global leaders to discuss collaboration amidst shifting geopolitical dynamics. The forum, attended by senior representatives, business leaders, experts, and cultural figures, focused on themes such as the Greater Eurasian Partnership, legislative harmonization, innovation, technology transfer, and cooperation in safeguarding rights and freedoms. Dr. Das contributed significantly during the panel session on “Public Diplomacy as a Tool for Cooperation in a Multipolar World.”

Mr. Alok Kumar, Honorary Governing Body Member and Director of BRICS CCI Russia, recently convened a pivotal meeting with prominent diplomatic and economic leaders, including H.E. Vinay Kumar, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, and Ambassador Anil Trigunayat, Senior Advisor of BRICS CCI. The discussions centered on strategies to enhance economic cooperation within the BRICS framework, with a strong emphasis on bolstering India-Russia relations. Together, they explored opportunities for deeper collaboration across various sectors, aiming to leverage the collective strengths of BRICS nations. They also examined initiatives to streamline bilateral trade and investment processes, facilitating smoother transactions between India and Russia.

BRICS CCI Women’s Empowerment (WE) made significant progress in fostering international collaboration and economic growth during a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Ambassador of Ethiopia to India, on April 18, 2024. Ms. Ruby Sinha, President of BRICS CCI WE, and Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director-BRICS CCI, held productive discussions with Ambassador Ambulo, focusing on enhancing trade and cultivating synergies between the two nations through the strategic potential of BRICS and BRICS CCI. This meeting marked a key milestone in pursuing mutual economic prosperity. The BRICS CCI WE leadership also presented the BRICS CCI WE Report 2024 to His Excellency.

BRICS CCI’s 46th Governing Body Meeting was held on April 12th, 2024, at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, chaired by Mr. Sameep Shastri and presided over by Dr. BBL Madhukar. Key discussions included confirming previous meeting minutes, approving new members, and reflecting on past events like the Russia-India 70th Anniversary Trade and Economic Cooperation and Smart City Forum. Future initiatives such as The Healthcare Summit 2024 and The Energy Summit 2024 were outlined, emphasizing collaboration and innovation. Strategies for member engagement, activity diversification, reduced fees for MSMEs and Women Entrepreneurs, and collaboration with GOPIO International were also discussed. The co-option of Mr. Alok Kumar as an Honorary Governing Body Member was unanimously approved. The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude and renewed commitment to BRICS CCI’s mission.

Her insightful contributions enriched discussions, emphasizing collaboration and learning opportunities. Ms. Sinha’s representation reflects our organization’s dedication to gender inclusivity and women’s leadership. On March 19, 2024, Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman of BRICS CCI, met with His Excellency Dr. Iraj Elahi, the Ambassador of Iran to India at the Embassy of the Republic of Iran. Their discussion focused on leveraging BRICS and BRICS CCI to enhance trade activities and build synergies between our nations. This meeting signifies a pivotal step toward strengthening cooperation and fostering economic growth. The BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently convened a productive meeting with Ms. Sofia Salas Monge, the Chargé d’affaires a.i., Embassy of Costa Rica in New Delhi on March 18, 2024. Attended by Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman, BRICS CCI and Ms. Ankita Sachdev, Joint Director, BRICS CCI, this diplomatic rendezvous marked a significant stride towards fostering stronger bilateral ties and exploring avenues for increased collaboration in trade and investment between BRICS nations and Costa Rica. During the meeting, informative discussions transpired, bolstered by the exchange of valuable resources on trade and investment. As we continue to strengthen ties, we aim to pave the way for increased collaboration, driving sustainable economic growth and prosperity for all involved.

Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman,  BRICS CCI, served as the Chief Guest at the IEEE 11th International Conference on Reliability, Infocom Technologies and Optimization (Trends and Future Directions), held at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida on March 14, 2024. In his address, Mr. Shastri emphasized the pivotal role of scientific analysis in achieving market leadership in a globally competitive environment, highlighting the importance of robust digital security measures and optimization methodologies. He underscored the significance of universities as catalysts for technology innovation, shaping the technological landscape of tomorrow. Mr. Shastri expressed confidence in the discussions and collaborations initiated at the event, anticipating tangible solutions and proactive strategies. He stated, “The discussions and collaborations initiated here today will pave the way for the envisioned future course of action.”

In a significant gathering of esteemed dignitaries and business leadership, a meet and greet event was held at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi on 10th February 2024. Notable guests included Dr. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education Sri Lanka; Mr. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Former Minister of Petroleum; H.E. Mr. Kenneth Nobrega, Ambassador of Brazil to India; Ms. Kshenuka Senewiratne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India; Ambassador Roberto Azevedo, Founding partner at YVY Capital and former Director General World Trade Organization (WTO); Mr. Sanjay Dasgupta CEO Capital Land;  Mr. Rizwan Sajan, Founder CEO Danube, Dubai, alongside several distinguished Business Delegates. Key figures from BRICS CCI in attendance were Mr. Prann Sharma, Executive Director of BRICS CCI, and Dr. BBL Madhukar, Director General of BRICS CCI. The event provided a platform for engaging in discussions on the BRICS agenda, with participants sharing valuable insights to shape future initiatives. 

BRICS CCI Women’s Vertical enthusiastically participated in the annual carnival hosted by the IAS Officers’ Wives’ Association (IASOWA) in New Delhi. Amidst the lively festivities, our dedicated stall served as a focal point for engaging with industry leaders and visitors, offering a unique opportunity to create awareness about BRICS CCI’s mission and initiatives. As the carnival unfolded, not only did we contribute to the joyous ambiance, but we also became a part of the larger narrative

supporting women and small entrepreneurs from diverse corners of the country.

Our presence underscored the commitment to fostering international collaboration and providing a platform for global engagement. We celebrated talent, diversity, and the spirit of collaboration at this remarkable event.
